How we find the fault

When something trips, dies or flickers, the temptation is to swap parts until it stops. We don't. We test, trace and prove the cause — so the fault gets fixed once, properly, instead of coming back next month.

  • Listen first

Symptoms are clues. When it trips, what's running at the time, what changed recently — it all shortens the search.

  • Test methodically

Calibrated instruments and a circuit-by-circuit process of elimination — not guesswork or part-swapping.

  • Trace the cause

We keep going until we've found and proved the actual fault — not just the point where it shows up.

  • Fix & certify

Repaired properly, retested and certified — with a 12-month labour warranty behind the work.

02 / What we fix

Faults we fix

Whatever your electrics are doing — or refusing to do — the chances are it's on this list. If it isn't, we'd still like to hear about it.

Tripping & nuisance trips

A board that trips when it rains, when the kettle goes on, or for no obvious reason at all. It's telling you something — we find out what.

Dead sockets & circuits

A single dead socket or a whole circuit down — we trace the break, whether it's a loose connection, a damaged cable or a failed accessory.

Flickering & dimming lights

Loose connections, failing dimmers or an overloaded circuit — persistent flicker is worth investigating, not living with.

Burning smells & hot fittings

A fishy or burning smell near sockets or switches means overheating. Switch the circuit off and call us — this one shouldn't wait.

Water damage

Leaks, floods and outdoor kit letting water in. We test what's been affected, dry-check the circuits and repair what the water ruined.

Intermittent faults

The hardest ones to catch — faults that come and go. Methodical elimination is the only honest way to pin them down, and it's how we work.

03 / Cause, not symptom

Our approach

Almost anything can make a symptom disappear for a week. Finding the reason it happened — and fixing that — is what stops it coming back.

  • Proper test instruments

Insulation resistance, continuity, earth fault loop and RCD testing — measured, not assumed.

  • Process of elimination

The installation is split down circuit by circuit until the fault has nowhere left to hide.

  • Honest findings

We explain what we found in plain English, with a clear price for the repair agreed before any work starts.

  • Certified repairs

Every repair is retested, certified and backed by our 12-month labour warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Methodically. We start with your description of the symptoms, then split the installation down circuit by circuit, testing with calibrated instruments — insulation resistance, continuity and RCD tests — until the cause is isolated. It's a process of elimination, not guesswork, and it means the fault gets fixed once rather than patched repeatedly.

It honestly varies. Some faults show themselves within the first few tests; intermittent ones can take longer to pin down. We work methodically, keep you informed as we narrow things down, and tell you straight away if the repair is going to be a bigger job.

No — please don't. An RCD trips because it has detected a genuine problem, often current leaking to earth. Repeatedly resetting it can mask a developing fault and, in the worst cases, leave a dangerous circuit live. If it won't hold after one or two resets, leave it off and give us a call.

We'll tell you honestly. Most faults are repairable, but if testing shows the wiring itself has degraded — perished insulation, widespread damage or repeated failures — a partial or full rewire may be the safer, more economical answer. We'll explain exactly what we found and quote clearly for the right fix.

Common causes include loose connections, failing switches or dimmers, overloaded circuits and, occasionally, a problem with the incoming supply. A brief flicker when a big appliance starts can be normal — but persistent flickering, buzzing or warm fittings should always be investigated.

Yes. Repairs are tested and certified with the appropriate certificate — typically a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate — and everything we fix is covered by our 12-month labour warranty.
